Arrival of HM The Queen
Her Majesty The Queen, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla and other members of the Royal Family arrived. The Queen was extended a warm welcome as she arrived to the Gala Concert.
The Fanfare Trumpeters from the Household Division opened the Gala evening followed by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, one of the most beloved international sopranos and a mentor to young artists, with The National Anthem. This began a musical journey through Britain and the Commonwealth since the Queen's coronation in 1953.
British artists Katherine Jenkins, Russell Watson, Katie Melua, Laura Wright and pop-rock band The Feeling were the highlight of the festival's evening music programme, which also featured performances by the National Youth Orchestra, Matthew Bourne's New Adventures, the English National Ballet and Grammy-winning composer Eric Whitacre, as well as a host of other artists to pay tribute to Her Majesty and the incredible period of change during her reign.
